Using your photos as a laptop cover design

Laptop covers are a great way to add individuality to your computer but to be truly unique you’ll need to design your own custom laptop skin. One of the easiest ways to do this, especially if you’re artistically challenged, is to use one of your own photographs.

Many online companies provide custom laptop cover printing services which allow you to upload photographs to their site. They will then print out your photo onto the laptop skin sheet, ready for use on your own computer. To use these services you’ll need to have a high resolution photograph, large enough to be printed the same size as your laptop screen without being pixelated. The website of the company you choose or the software provided by them will advise you on the resolution required.

You can use a photo of literally anything to decorate your laptop. A popular option, as with desktop wallpaper and screensavers, is a landscape scene. You can remind yourself of holidays by designing a laptop cover with a photo of the sun drenched Thai beach you visited last year or simply choose an atmospheric shot from your collection. Another great way to make your laptop truly personal is to use a photo of your family or pets. This is a modern variation on keeping a photo in your wallet and is a great way to keep your loved ones close, particularly if you do a lot of traveling or work away from home a lot.

Another unique idea is to use a vintage photograph. Scour the photo albums of your parents and grandparents and find a great image from the forties, fifties or sixties. Vintage photos can be scanned into your computer at high resolution and are a great contrast to modern technology.

To add a little interest to your photo you may want to do some processing on it before using it in your design. There are several free software packages available that allow you to add a number of effects to your photos such as a sepia tint, painted effect or emulating the look of old Polaroid photographs.  You could also add text to your design or even create a collage from several photographs. Some of the custom laptop cover companies allow you to do this directly with their software.
